Gold Weights, Units and Price Calculations

Gold is priced in grams in Dubai, per 10 grams in India, in tola by many Indian families and in troy ounces on world markets. That’s why so many buyers get confused at the counter. These guides make the maths simple.

Learn what a tola really weighs (11.6638 grams, not the rounded 10 grams some people use), why a troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, how to convert the Dubai rate into an Indian-style rate, and how to work out a jewellery price from weight, rate, making charge and VAT. You’ll also find guides on net versus gross weight, wastage charges, the percentage versus per-gram making-charge question, and what popular weights such as 8 grams (one pavan), 20 grams and 40 grams cost today.

Try the numbers yourself with the gold price calculator or see live prices on the price per tola page.
