Gold Making Charges Calculator
Weekend: global gold markets are closed, so prices show Friday, 6 Nov’s closing rate. Live updates resume on Monday morning (IST). Last checked IST (7:53 PM Dubai)
Shops quote making charges in different ways: AED per gram, a percentage of the gold value, or one total price. This calculator turns every quote into the same terms so you can see which is actually cheaper, at today’s 22K rate of AED 440.37 (₹11,285.28) per gram.
Compare making-charge quotes

Why the same quote can mean different money
A 10% making charge sounds small, but on a heavy necklace it can be more than a flat AED 25 per gram. On a light chain the opposite is often true. The table shows each quote as both “per gram” and “% of gold value”, which is the quickest way to compare.
Tips before you agree a price
- Ask for the net gold weight. Stones and enamel should not be charged at the gold rate.
- Making charges are negotiable at most Gold Souk shops, especially on plain chains and bangles.
- VAT of 5% is charged on making charges too. Tourists get most of it back at the airport.

Rates are indicative and may differ from jewellers’ final prices, which include making charges and 5% VAT. Rupee (₹) prices are Dubai prices converted to INR, not gold rates in India.
