Fact-Checking and Corrections Policy
We work hard to get every rule, rate and number right. When we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and openly.
How we fact-check
- Every limit, duty rate, VAT rule and tax figure in our guides is checked against an official or primary source before publishing.
- Calculations in worked examples are re-checked, and live prices are inserted automatically so they can’t go stale.
- Guides on rules that change, such as customs, VAT and tax, are reviewed whenever the underlying rule changes.
How to report an error
Email us through the contact page with the page address and what you believe is wrong, plus a source if you have one. We review every report.
How we correct
- Factual errors (a wrong limit, rate or calculation) are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, and the article’s “updated” date changes.
- Significant corrections that change the meaning of advice get a short note in the article explaining what changed.
- Price data issues are fixed at the source. Our rates recalculate automatically, and past prices in our history are corrected if a data error is found.
Updates versus corrections
When a government changes a rule, we update the guide to reflect the new rule. That is an update, not a correction, and the article date shows when it happened.
